These are a few examples of it in use:
For Large Carbon-Steel Structures
Traditional inspection of large structures requires local access, which is often costly. The LSI system approach provides full ultrasonic B-Scan, C-Scan, T-Scan, LRUT, visual and UT weld inspection (shear and TOFD) using a fast remotely controlled crawler. The LSI system has two powerful magnetic tractors that carry a range of inspection hardware and may be configured for most inspection tasks. LSI was developed by Scanning Systems International, now part of the Mistras Holdings NDT Automation division, and has been proven worldwide. Applications where LSI is currently used include storage tanks, heat exchangers, storage spheres and bullets, columns, pipelines, ship hulls and box girders. Physical Acoustics have experienced UT level II and III technicians to provide the service, or rent the system to companies having suitably qualified personnel. Special configurations and their verification are carried out in-house.
The LSI Solution
Scanning bridge width: Up to 500mm. Scanning speed: ~1 second per 500mm scan line, <1 sec per index. Thickness scanning through paint and rough surfaces (jet probe). Thickness results provided on CD in excel format (thickness for each position, presented as C-Scan, colour coded to suit customer requirements). Separate identification of internal and external corrosion.
Examples
-100% heat exchanger shell (incl. high res. Scans) 9 hrs (HIC).
-Tank wall fast B-Scan drops or C-Scan (see speed/resolution chart), vertical or horisontal scan.
-Ship hull coarse C-Scan (0.5m width x 1 metre per minute linear).
-Columns, vertical or horizontal scan.
